How to resize your passport image for the Egypt eVisa

Many travellers reach the Egypt eVisa website, start filling in the form, then get stuck when they try to upload their passport image.
The portal rejects the file because it is too large or in the wrong format, which can be very frustrating when you just want to get your visa approved and focus on your holiday.

To make this easier, we have created a free passport image resizer that helps you quickly reduce the file size of your passport information page or passport style photo so it meets the usual 1 MB limit used on the Egypt eVisa portal and many other visa sites worldwide.

In this guide we explain why the file size limit exists, how to use our tool, and a few simple tips to help your Egypt eVisa application go more smoothly.

For a full step by step guide to the online application itself, including account creation and payment, you can also read: How to apply for an Egypt eVisa online.

Why the Egypt eVisa asks for a smaller passport image

When you apply for an Egypt eVisa online you are usually asked to upload a clear image or scan of the information page of your passport.
The file must be under 1 MB in size and in an accepted format such as JPG, PNG or PDF.
If the file is too large, the system will reject it and your application cannot move forward until you upload a smaller version.

There are a few reasons for this limit.
Smaller files keep the system fast and reliable for everyone who is applying.
They also reduce the risk of timeouts on slower internet connections and help the immigration authorities handle large numbers of applications more efficiently.

Some travellers are also asked to upload a separate passport style portrait photo for their eVisa or for embassy visa applications.
These images normally have similar file size limits, so the same resizing steps are useful whether you are uploading a passport page or a portrait.

Introducing the Classic Holidays passport image resizer

To help our Egypt guests avoid common eVisa headaches, we have developed a free, easy to use passport image resizer on our website: https://www.classicholidays.co.uk/passport-photo-resizer/

This tool is designed with the Egypt eVisa requirements in mind and can also be used for other countries that ask for a maximum file size, such as 1 MB, for passport scans or passport photos.

Most importantly, the resizer runs entirely in your browser.
Your image is not uploaded to our servers and we do not see or store your file.
Everything happens on your own device, which gives extra reassurance when you are working with sensitive documents like your passport.

How to resize your passport image for the Egypt eVisa

Using the Classic Holidays passport image resizer is simple and only takes a minute or two.

  1. Go to https://www.classicholidays.co.uk/passport-photo-resizer/.
  2. Select your image.
This can be a scan or photo of the information page of your passport, or a passport style portrait photo if your visa application asks for one.
  3. Leave the target size set to 1,000 KB if you need to meet a 1 MB limit such as the Egypt eVisa requirement.
  4. Click Compress image.
The tool will reduce the file size and show you a preview of the new version.
  5. Download the compressed image and use this version when you upload your passport image to the Egypt eVisa portal or another visa website.

If the file is still slightly over the limit when you try to upload it, you can return to the tool, reduce the target size a little further and compress the image again.

Checklist before you upload your passport image

Before you submit your Egypt eVisa application, it is worth taking a moment to check a few important details.
This can help you avoid delays or requests to resubmit your documents.

  • Passport validity – your passport should usually have at least six months validity remaining from the date you plan to arrive in Egypt.
If it does not, renew it before you apply.
  • Image clarity – whether you are uploading a passport page or a portrait, make sure the image is sharp, well lit and in colour, with no heavy filters.
  • File size – confirm that the image is under 1 MB in size.
Our resizer page is set up with a default target of 1,000 KB to match this limit.
  • File type – use a common format such as JPG, PNG or PDF as required by the visa site you are using.
  • File name – give the file a simple name using standard letters and numbers only, for example passport-page.jpg.
Avoid special characters, symbols or very long file names.

Tips for a good passport page image

For the Egypt eVisa, most applicants will upload an image of the information page of their passport.
These simple tips can help make sure your file is accepted the first time.

  • Make sure all four corners of the passport page are visible if possible.
  • Check that all text is readable when you zoom in, especially your name, passport number and expiry date.
  • Avoid glare, reflections and heavy shadows across the page.
  • Place the passport on a flat, plain background before you take the photo.
  • Hold your phone or camera steady so the image is not blurred.

If the image looks dark or slightly blurry, take another photo or create a fresh scan before you resize it.
The resizer can reduce file size but it cannot fix a poor quality original.

What about passport style portrait photos

Some online visa systems and embassy applications also ask for a recent passport style photo of you, separate from the passport page.
You can use the same Classic Holidays resizer to reduce the file size of a digital portrait image.

As a general guide, a good passport style photo should:

  • Show your full face, looking straight at the camera.
  • Have a plain, light coloured background.
  • Be in colour and in focus, with no filters.
  • Show a neutral expression, with no heavy shadows.

Always check the exact photo rules for the country you are travelling to, as different governments can have slightly different requirements.

Visa on arrival in Egypt and when you need an eVisa

This article is mainly about getting your passport image ready, rather than deciding which type of visa you need. In simple terms, many Classic Holidays guests on direct flights to Cairo, Luxor or Hurghada will normally obtain a tourist visa on arrival from our airport representative, who arranges the visa and places the visa sticker directly into your passport, while guests travelling in transit via Cairo are usually asked to arrange an Egypt eVisa in advance.

For a quick guide that takes your passport, arrival airport and flight routing into account, you can use our Egypt Visa Helper.
