Quick fire guide to top Cairo restaurants

If you are visiting Cairo for a few days as part of your Nile cruise, there are a plethora of dining options available to you. In this blog, we take a look at some eateries which are certainly worth checking out in the Egyptian capital:

Zitouni

If you have worked up an appetite during your time in Egypt, there’s no better place to ‘fill the hole’ than Zitouni. Situated at the decadent Four Seasons Nile Plaza, the Lavish Fetar Buffet at this restaurant has an almost legendary status, offering everything from soup terrines to Lebanese fatta and big platters of seafood and meat. The salad bar offers a feast of fresh delights – from crab wrapped in aubergine to pickled cucumbers, plus you can enjoy the Middle East favourite of hummus.

Ovio

Ovio in Maadi has a well-earned reputation – it is tucked away in a quiet spot, but offers diners a lively culinary experience. Expect interesting twists on European-style cuisine – such as Apple Chicken Salad – as well as favourite Italian staples such as Funghi Chicken Pasta and Margarita Pizza. After enjoying the tasty food at Ovio, it is easy to see why Italian food is cherished the world over – even in Cairo.

Desoke

For traditional Egyptian cuisine, Desoke takes some beating. Here, in a small Zamalek side street, is an eatery which offers dishes inspired by past generations – from roasted chicken to beans in sauce.

Sequoia

Sequoia, not to be confused with the car of the same name, has an amazing location right on the river, and luckily the food lives up to the address. Such is the quality of the tasty Middle Eastern appetizers, that you might not even get to the main courses! If you do, you can look forward to some of the best grilled fare in the city. But we recommend sticking with the Lebanese mezze, which can be just as filling and allow you to try more dishes!

From breathtaking settings to small side streets, restaurants in Cairo come in all shapes and sizes, and so does the incredible food!
