Sharm El Sheikh: more than just a beach holiday

What better way to end your Nile river cruise than 3 to 5 nights relaxing and enjoying the delights of Sharm El Sheikh? Famed worldwide for its amazing diving opportunities and expansive white beaches, this resort has so much to offer the discerning traveller. This beautiful city and resort is somewhere to definitely add to your holiday itinerary. Here are some reasons why.

A perfect sea

Sharm El Sheikh is located on the Red Sea. In these times of serious concern about sea and ocean plastic pollution, it is good to know that the Red Sea remains one of the cleanest seas in the world. With a temperature of 27-28 degrees, it is certainly the warmest.

The diving here is rated amongst the best. The clear sea allows for high visibility of the many corals and sea animals. It is a diver’s paradise. Submerging yourself in the Red Sea might do you more good than you expected as the salt and mineral water is reputed to have health benefits too.

The Egyptians take the cleanliness of their sea seriously. From June 2019, Egypt’s Red Sea governor, General Ahmed Abdullah, has banned single-use or disposable plastics.

History meets the beach

The Old Town of Sharm El Sheikh is a treasure trove for history buffs and shoppers alike. Sharm Old Market or souq is filled with delights: Arabic lamps, artisan crafts and traditional shisha pipes. Even if you’re not a shopper, you’ll be enthralled by its culture as well as tempted by the myriad of restaurants and cafes.

Further afield, a day trip to St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai is awe inspiring. Alleged to be the site of Moses receiving the Ten Commandments, it is one of the oldest working monasteries in the world. Its location is breathtaking. For the energetic, a hike to the summit of Mt. Sinai is another part of the attraction.

An Egypt cruise offers the traveller a wealth of memories. A Nile cruise and stay in Sharm El Sheikh enhances these opportunities further.
