The Dine Around programme, explained

El Gouna does All Inclusive differently, and it is a genuine selling point. The town runs a Dine Around scheme that lets hotel guests eat beyond their own resort. Stay 4 nights and you receive 1 dine-around meal, stays of 5 to 7 nights earn 3, and 8 nights or more earn 4. Each can be used at the buffet of any participating four-star hotel at no extra charge, or taken as an E£200 per person credit towards your food bill at participating à la carte restaurants around town. Five-star hotel buffets are available for a modest supplement paid locally, and drinks are payable wherever you dine out.

The main pool is the photograph everyone takes home: a circular pool ringed by columns and arches, raised directly above the hotel’s beach so the water seems to spill into the Red Sea behind it. It is heated through the winter, which makes this one of El Gouna’s better choices for a January or February escape, and the sunbeds, umbrellas and towels around it are free of charge.

The mood is deliberately quiet. Because the hotel is adults only there are no games blasting across the water all day; the activity team runs optional sessions such as water aerobics and boccia for those who want them and leaves everyone else to their sunbed and their book. For something livelier, the DuPort Pool Club on the marina side serves drinks and à la carte dishes around its own pool in season, with music to match.

SHORE

A private beach, an island by boat and reefs beyond

The hotel’s own beach sits directly below the pool terrace, a compact, sheltered strip of sand with loungers, parasols and direct access into the sea. It is lovely for a morning swim, but the real beach ace here is the shuttle boat.

A short hop across the water lands you on Zeytouna Island, El Gouna’s sandy island beach, where hotel guests find sunbeds, umbrellas and towels provided at no charge, plus a beach bar and a relaxed à la carte restaurant for lunch.
