Cairo is a sightseeing city, and the clever thing about this hotel is how well it balances that with a genuine resort afternoon. Sightsee in the morning, be flat on a lounger by two, and you will not feel you have compromised on either half of the day.
At around 950 square metres this is one of the largest hotel pools in Cairo, and it is heated, so it earns its keep in January just as much as July. Cabanas and loungers ring the water, there is a whirlpool corner for soaking, Rizz Pool Bar handles the juices and cocktails, and in a flourish very much in keeping with the place, the hotel says the billiards table built into the pool itself is the only one in the city. The terrace catches sun for most of the day, and there are quieter corners away from the bar if you would rather read than mingle. On some evenings the area turns social, with music and lighting after dark.
The fitness centre is open 24 hours with modern cardio and weights kit and an outdoor training area for cooler mornings. In the pool itself, an aqua gym section, a first for a hotel in Egypt, offers low impact workouts against the resistance of the water. For massages and treatments guests use Pure Spa at the Hyatt Regency Cairo West, the sister hotel on the same site: a full service spa with treatment rooms, sauna and steam, payable locally. It is a short stroll across the shared grounds, and we suggest booking treatments a day or so ahead in busier periods.
True to the lifestyle brief there are spaces here you will not find in any other Cairo hotel: a soundproofed podcast studio, a guitar room stocked with electric guitars and amps, and a smart co-working lounge if you must keep half an eye on the office. None of it is compulsory, all of it is fun to have on tap.
