The island sets the tone. A wooden walkway leads out over a lagoon so clear that guests regularly spot shoals of fish from the bridge itself, and on the far side you will find sun loungers, palm shade, an open air massage hut and the Island Bar, which serves all inclusive drinks until 11.30pm. In the warmer months an Asian restaurant, Bamboo Island, opens out here too, and the hotel even hosts weddings on the island with the Red Sea on every side.
Back on the mainland, the resort is a single curved building of six floors, which is how every room and suite looks out over the sea. Below it sit two outdoor pools, one heated when the weather cools, a private sandy beach on a sheltered lagoon, and the on site Aquarius Diving Club with its own jetty for the dive boats. A health club adds a gym, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi.

Accommodation at the Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort is refreshingly simple to choose: all 283 rooms and suites sit in one six storey building angled at the Red Sea, and every one has a sea view. Expect Marriott bedding, individually controlled air conditioning, a flat screen TV with satellite channels, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, an in room safe and a minibar (stocked at a charge). Twenty five of the keys are suites, named after Roman gods rather than numbered categories.
The core of the hotel and better than many entry level rooms in Hurghada, chiefly because the sea view comes as standard rather than as a paid extra. The choice of a king or two twin beds gives families and friends more flexibility.

The main restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets with a rotating international spread and a large outdoor terrace. On half board and all inclusive alike, this is the engine room of the hotel’s dining.

The pool restaurant and bar for unhurried lunches: fresh sandwiches, the Marriott burger, seafood, steak and home made pizza, eaten in swimwear distance of the water.
Two outdoor pools sit between the hotel building and the beach, wrapped in lawned gardens and palm shade with plenty of padded loungers and towels provided. The main pool is the sociable one, a generous free form shape with the Surf & Turf bar and restaurant at its edge, so lunch, cold drinks and coffee never involve leaving your lounger for long.
Crucially for winter sun, one pool is heated in the cooler months. Between roughly November and April the Red Sea hovers around 21 to 23 degrees, refreshing rather than balmy, and a heated pool is the difference between swimming every day and admiring the water from a towel. Plenty of five star hotels in Hurghada still skip this, so we flag it as a genuine point in the Marriott’s favour.
The pool scene here is relaxed rather than raucous. Days revolve around swimming, reading and drifting between pool, beach and island, not volume. If you prefer your sunbathing quieter still, the loungers out on the island are the ones to claim.
The resort’s calling card is a small island of its own, reached on foot across a timber walkway. Cross the bridge, pause to watch the fish in the clear water below, and you arrive at a circle of sand with loungers and parasols, an open air massage hut under the palms, and the Island Bar serving all inclusive drinks until 11.30pm. In season the Bamboo Island restaurant serves Asian dinners out here, there is entertainment on some evenings, and couples can even marry on the island. It is a spot no neighbouring hotel can copy.
The beach itself is private, sandy and sheltered, set on a calm lagoon that makes for easy, gentle swimming with none of the shore break you find on more exposed stretches. Loungers, parasols and towels are provided, and the Sunshine Beach Bar keeps the barbecue lunches and cocktails coming with the Red Sea as the view.
Aquarius Diving Club runs a full PADI centre on site, with a dive shop, an air conditioned classroom, a training pool for first timers and its own jetty from which the dive boats leave. Daily trips reach the reefs and islands that made Hurghada famous, including the Giftun Island marine park, and courses run from taster dives through to professional levels. Windsurfing, waterskiing and glass bottom boat trips can also be arranged; water sports are payable locally rather than included in all inclusive.
