Every room here is a suite, the sand runs for 400 metres, and the airport is barely a quarter of an hour away. This is the resort Hurghada regulars book when they want five star polish without the long transfer, and it has just emerged from a top to bottom renovation of its suites.
Part of the ALDAU resort complex on Yussif Afifi Road, this is the flagship: a five star, all suite hotel arranged around gardens, lagoon pools and 400 metres of its own Red Sea shoreline at the southern end of Hurghada. The architecture takes its cues from the Swahili coast, all shaded arcades, warm timber and deep balconies, and the venue names follow suit; Karibu, the 24 hour lobby lounge, is Swahili for welcome. A recent renovation has brought the suites right up to date, with smart TVs, USB charging and calm, contemporary interiors from around 50 square metres upwards.
The numbers are hard to argue with. The outdoor pool landscape covers some 5,000 square metres. Pure Spa runs to around 1,000 square metres of hammam, sauna and heated indoor pool. The floodlit nine hole Aldau golf course sits immediately next door, and the Ilios dive centre on the beach sends boats out to the reefs from its own small harbour. Dinner might be the famous weekly Steigenberger buffet at Tamarind, Lebanese mezze by the water at Tanga, or European fusion under low lights at Alex Beach Club.
Location is the quiet trump card. The resort fronts the Mamsha, Hurghada’s seafront promenade, so cafes and shops are a stroll away rather than a taxi ride, the Hurghada Museum is about ten minutes on foot, and the transfer from the airport is over almost before it has begun.
Couples who want five star comfort with some life beyond the gates; families who need genuine space, since even the entry level suites sleep three and Family Suites take two adults and two children; golfers, spa devotees and divers; and anyone flying in for a week of dependable winter sun without a long drive at either end.

The renovation that reshaped this hotel turned it into an all suite property, and the difference is obvious the moment you open the door: a proper sitting area, a furnished balcony or terrace, and interiors in restful, contemporary colours with smart TVs and USB charging throughout. Most suites look over the sea, the pools or the gardens, and 24 hour room service backs up the lot. Four suites are adapted for guests with limited mobility, and ramps run all the way down to the beach.

Expect a comfortable sitting area, a furnished balcony and a choice of garden, pool or sea outlooks; the sea view versions face the sunrise, which is worth getting up for at least once.

The pool landscape is the centre of the resort and covers around 5,000 square metres, a chain of lagoon style pools winding between palms, lawns and bougainvillea rather than one rectangle of chlorine. Bwala sits in the middle of it with its wet bar, so a cold drink never involves drying off first, and loungers and towels are laid on without a charge.
Character wise it splits neatly. The stretch nearest Bwala is the sociable end, with pool volleyball and water polo when the mood takes hold, while the corners that wander off into the gardens stay quiet enough for an afternoon with a book. Even in peak weeks the sheer spread of water and lawn soaks up the crowds, which is exactly what 5,000 square metres is for.
In winter, a smaller heated pool takes over in the cooler months, and the heated indoor pool at Pure Spa means a proper swim is never off the menu. Summer needs no such planning, just a hat.
The beach is the making of the place: 400 metres of sand on the open Red Sea, dressed with loungers, parasols and towel service, and long enough that the far end always feels half empty. Ramps run from the hotel to the shoreline, so the whole stretch is step free, and the beach faces the morning sun, which is when it is at its absolute best.
This coast is sandy shore rather than house reef, so serious snorkelling happens by boat, and that is where the hotel plays its ace. The Ilios dive and water sports centre sits right on the beach, teaches to PADI and SSI standards, and runs well kept boats from its own small harbour to the reefs off Hurghada, with the celebrated sites around Giftun Island within easy reach. Beginners can be doing their first pool session in the morning and pointing at parrotfish by the end of the week.
Few Hurghada hotels can offer a round of golf between breakfast and the beach. The nine hole, par three Aldau course sits immediately beside the hotel, and it is floodlit, so you can tee off in the cool of the evening under the lights, which in an Egyptian summer is precisely when you want to be swinging a club.

The hotel sits on Yussif Afifi Road at the southern end of Hurghada, in the Al Mamsha El Seyahi district, which means the seafront promenade with its cafes, bakeries and shops begins more or less at the gate. That is rarer than it sounds on this coast: most five star resorts here are gated compounds in the desert, while this one lets you wander out for an evening stroll and a proper Egyptian coffee.
Hurghada itself repays a little exploring. The marina is lined with restaurants and makes an easy evening out, the Hurghada Museum gives the pharaohs some context ten minutes from your lounger, and the souk streets of El Dahar, the old town, are the place for spices and haggling practice.

The main lagoon pool is unheated, so between December and February it is refreshing at best. A smaller heated pool serves the cooler months, and Pure Spa has a heated indoor pool, so a proper swim is available all year round.
