Who suits it? Couples who want sand, space and a calmer corner get a dedicated adults only area by the beach with its own bar. Families get rooms that genuinely fit them, from bunk bed rooms to proper two bedroom suites. Winter sun travellers do particularly well here, with the pools heated through the cooler months and a hammam waiting at the spa.
Our honest take: this is a big, sociable resort rather than a boutique hideaway. Days are lively around the main pool, and evenings bring shows, a pub and a shisha tent. If you like that energy, with the escape valve of the adults only sand when you want peace, few Hurghada resorts at this level are as well rounded. Swimming at Sunrise Garden Beach Resort Hurghada revolves around three outdoor pools threaded through the grounds. The main pool is the sociable one, with the resort team running daytime activity sessions and the Oasis and Aqua pool bars keeping drinks within reach, including a swim up counter so you never need to towel off for a cold drink.
Away from the main action the gardens do their job. Lounger terraces sit in greenery rather than on bare concrete, and it is genuinely possible to find a quiet spot even in school holiday weeks. Couples who want maximum calm tend to base themselves towards the adults only end of the resort by the beach and treat the pools as a change of scene, while early risers get the water more or less to themselves.
Because guests spread themselves between the pools, the sand and the lawns, the sunbed scramble that sours some large resorts is far less of an issue here in our experience. Settle by the main pool if you want the activity sessions and swim up service, or carry a book to one of the garden terraces if you would rather hear birdsong than a playlist.
The gardens finish at a private stretch of sandy Red Sea shore reserved for guests, lined with loungers and parasols and served by its own beach bar so the walk for a cold drink stays short. At one end sits a dedicated adults only area with its own bar, kept noticeably calmer than the main run of sand; couples tell us it makes all the difference in busier months.
Water lovers are well looked after. A dive centre operates right on the beach, hiring snorkelling equipment and running everything from first time try dives through to full courses, and water sports continue through the winter season rather than stopping in October. Be realistic about the snorkelling itself, though: this is a mainland sandy bay, so the serious coral is a boat ride away rather than at the end of a jetty. The dive centre and our own excursion partners run day boats out to the reefs around Giftun Island, some of the best day trip snorkelling grounds on this coast.
The Red Sea itself stays warm enough for swimming for most of the year, which is a large part of why we send so many customers to Hurghada between October and April. Pair a couple of lazy beach days with one boat trip and you will have seen the coast at its best.

The wellness offer at Sunrise Garden Beach Resort Hurghada is a proper spa rather than a token treatment room. Inside you will find treatment rooms with their own relaxation area, a sauna and steam room, an Arabian hammam and a hydro pool, with the whole centre reserved for guests aged 16 and over and open from 10:00 to 20:00.
The treatment menu runs deep: aromatherapy, oriental and Thai massage, shiatsu, reflexology and hot stone therapy sit alongside couples rituals and traditional Turkish bath and hammam ceremonies. Treatments carry an extra charge and need booking ahead, and the hammam slots in particular go early in the week, so reserve on arrival day if it is on your list.
The gym is complimentary and better equipped than most resort fitness rooms, with modern Precor machines and free weights, fitness classes and personal trainers on hand, open from 08:00 to 19:00 for guests aged 16 and over. If you prefer your exercise outdoors, daytime sports and activity sessions run around the resort as part of the all inclusive, so you can stay moving without ever leaving the gardens.
