The Makadi Spa Hotel is an adults only, all suite retreat on the shore of Makadi Bay, with an infinity pool poised above the Red Sea and more than 9,000 square metres of hammam, sauna and treatment rooms at The Spa. In our view it is the most complete wellness escape we sell on this stretch of coast.
Everything here is tuned for grown ups. Guests must be 18 or over, so the pools stay calm, loungers are easy to come by and the soundtrack is water, birdsong and low conversation rather than poolside games. No water slides, no mini disco, no animation team with a microphone.
Every one of the 282 rooms is a suite, from 46 square metre Junior Suites opening onto the gardens to Pool Suites with a private plunge pool on the terrace. Days settle into an easy loop: a snorkel over the house reef from the jetty, a long lunch at Shimmers, an afternoon in the hammam, then dinner somewhere different every night, with nine named restaurants woven into the all inclusive and the shops and cafes of the Makadi Mall an evening stroll away.
This is not a hotel for big production shows or late night bars; evenings mean live music, a cocktail in the Vanilla Lounge and an early night before the spa reopens. Our customers tell us that is precisely the point. If you want a change of scene, the promenade at Makadi Mall is within the village, and Hurghada is about 40 minutes away. Every room at the Makadi Spa Hotel is a suite, and even the entry level ones start at a size many five star hotels would call their upgrade. All 282 come with a king size bed, a bathroom with both a bath and a separate walk in shower, a furnished balcony or terrace, air conditioning, satellite TV, a tea and coffee tray, a safe and a minibar stocked with soft drinks. Styling is calm and contemporary, soft neutrals and clean lines, and because the whole hotel is adults only, every category shares the same unhurried mood.

You stay all inclusive with us, and it is an unusually wide ranging version of it. Meals are not confined to one buffet hall: à la carte dining is built into the package, and your all inclusive wristband also works at neighbouring Red Sea Hotels resorts in the bay, including Makadi Palace and Grand Makadi, and at restaurants in the Makadi Mall.
A few things sit outside the package: imported drinks, bottled wine, fresh juices, espresso based coffees, drinks in the lobby bar, local alcohol after midnight and a handful of premium dishes in the speciality restaurants. The infinity pool is the image everyone takes home: a sheet of water at a steady 1.1 metres that appears to tip straight into the Red Sea, ringed by more than a hundred loungers and best in the hour before sunset when the bay turns gold. The second, larger pool sits by the lobby and gardens, runs from paddling depth to just under 1.5 metres, and is heated in winter, which makes this one of the safer bets on the coast for a swimmable January. Because children never visit, neither pool ever turns into a splash zone; the loudest thing you will hear is the pool bar blender.
The private beach is a gently shelving curve of sand on the sheltered side of Makadi Bay, with around 400 loungers and parasols spread along it, so the dawn towel ritual is not a thing here. The reason to come, though, is under the surface. A jetty walks you out over the shallows with steps straight down onto the house reef, and the coral runs along this stretch of bay, so snorkellers can drift with the current past shoals of reef fish and be back in time for lunch at Shimmers. The bay is shared with the hotel’s sister resorts, which means a long stretch of shoreline to wander.
Divers are well served too: PADI dive centres operate within Makadi Bay for try dives, courses and boat trips out to the offshore reefs, and we can arrange snorkelling excursions further afield when you fancy new water. Beach volleyball and tennis courts keep the more energetic occupied, with tennis carrying a small court fee.
Most Red Sea hotels have a spa. Here the hotel is attached to The Spa, a wellness complex of more than 9,000 square metres set in palm gardens with views over the water, and it shapes the whole rhythm of a stay. Expect a full hammam with traditional Turkish bath rituals, saunas, steam baths and jacuzzis in the wet area, thalassotherapy, a long menu of massages from Swedish to Thai, and a beauty centre for facials, manicures and pre dinner blow dries.

The hotel sits within Madinat Makadi, a manicured, self contained resort village on the Safaga road about 25 km south of Hurghada International Airport, on a sheltered sweep of Makadi Bay backed by desert hills. There is no town here in the traditional sense, and that is the appeal: the bay is all landscaped resorts, gardens and reef, with the village’s own promenade for an evening out.
