Some Red Sea resorts try to be all things to all people. Premier Le Reve Sahl Hasheesh does one thing supremely well: grown up, five star seaside comfort on a private stretch of the bay, where the loudest sound most afternoons is the sea washing against the jetty.
Sahl Hasheesh itself sets the tone. It is a gated, purpose built bay community south of Hurghada, all landscaped boulevards, a long seafront promenade and famously clear water, with none of the hustle you find in town. Within it, the resort holds a prime piece of shoreline. Gardens of palms and bougainvillea step down past a chain of swimming pools to soft sand, rows of parasols, complimentary beach cabanas and a wooden pier reaching out over a living coral reef. Snorkellers do particularly well here, because the house reef starts at the end of the jetty rather than a boat ride away. There is no mini disco, no poolside animation team with a microphone, and nobody bombing into the water beside your lounger. If you want buzzing nightlife on the doorstep, look at Hurghada town instead; evenings here are about the Long Bar, a DJ and a nightcap under the stars.
We rate this as one of the strongest adults only all inclusives on this coast, and the warmth of the team is what guests remember most. Two things to know before you book: the bay faces north east, so on breezy days a red flag can close the jetty for swimming, and spa treatments plus two of the seven restaurants sit outside the standard all inclusive. Space is the quiet luxury here. Every standard category measures around 49 m², roughly double the size of a typical European hotel room, and each comes with a balcony or terrace, minibar, safe, LCD TV and internet access. Many add walk in wardrobes and a separate bathtub and shower. Views, not size, are what separate the room grades, so choose by outlook and budget.

The heart of it is Turquoise, the main restaurant, laying on international buffets at breakfast, lunch and dinner with themed evenings, a weekly gala night and a late sitting for anyone back from a day trip. Through the day there are light meals by the sand at Ossiano Beach, and the bars pour locally produced beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, with the Lobby Bar open around the clock.
On top of the buffet, the standard package includes three à la carte dinners in each week of your stay: one each at Bella, Mandarin and Ossiano. Miyako and Little Delhi carry a supplement on the standard package. An optional premium upgrade roughly doubles the à la carte allowance, adds the Japanese teppanyaki and Indian tables once a week each, brings in imported drink labels and opens the Executive Lounge.

Water runs right through the middle of this resort. Four outdoor pools sit among the gardens between the main building and the beach, including seawater pools for anyone who likes the mineral tingle of the Red Sea without the fish. Terraces around each are set with loungers and parasols, and because every guest is sixteen or over, the soundtrack is conversation and the odd splash of a proper swimmer doing lengths.
The one everybody photographs is upstairs: a glass domed sky pool on the top floor, heated for the cooler months, with a view across the bay that turns molten at sunset. Between November and March it quietly becomes the centre of the hotel, a warm swim with the winter sun streaming through the glass.
Days move gently. There are water aerobics and yoga sessions for those who want them and absolutely no pressure for those who do not. Bar service reaches the loungers, the Pool Bar keeps drinks cold through the afternoon, and finding two sunbeds together rarely turns into the competitive sport it can be elsewhere on this coast.
The beach is private, soft underfoot and properly equipped: comfortable sunbeds under parasols, windbreakers for the breezier afternoons and a row of luxurious cabanas that are complimentary rather than chargeable, which still surprises us at this level. Staff circulate with drinks, and Ossiano Beach handles lunch a few steps from your towel.
A wooden pier runs out over the shallows to the resort’s biggest natural asset, a living coral reef at its far end. To protect the coral, entry to the sea is from the pier only, and the payoff is a reef in genuinely good health. Slip in and the first stretch is shallow and easy, then the ground falls away into blue water busy with shoals of Red Sea fish. In our view this is some of the best doorstep snorkelling within reach of Hurghada, no boat required.
The beach team can arrange diving and other water sports through the centre on the sand, from first bubbles to guided trips out to the offshore reefs. Sahl Hasheesh sits within easy reach of some celebrated Red Sea dive sites, and we can also pre arrange boat excursions with your holiday.
Ruma Spa is the resort’s wellness heart, a calm suite of treatment rooms backed by a sauna, steam room, Turkish bath and jacuzzi. Therapists work through a menu that runs from aromatherapy massage to reflexology and body wraps, and after a few days of sun and salt water a session in the hammam followed by a massage is close to obligatory.
