JAZ Costa Mares is a five star, adults only resort reserved for guests aged 16 and over, set on the sandy curve of Marsa Mares bay on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, moments from the celebrated turtle and dugong bay of Marsa Mubarak and only a short drive from Marsa Alam airport.
Built in 2020 and originally launched as Iberotel Costa Mares, the resort now sits within the JAZ Hotel Group and is one of the newest five star properties on this stretch of coast. Its 208 rooms and suites spread through low rise buildings and gardens above a soft, sandy bay, with two pools, three restaurants and four bars arranged so that nothing ever feels crowded. The whole hotel is reserved for guests aged 16 and over, so the mood stays unhurried from breakfast to the last drink at the Sky Bar. No water slides, no mini disco, no queue for the omelette station.
The sea is the real headline. The bay in front of the resort shelves gently over sand and seagrass, and the neighbouring bay of Marsa Mubarak is one of the most famous snorkelling and diving spots in the whole Red Sea, home to resident green turtles and the dugongs that draw underwater photographers from around the world. A PADI five star dive centre sits right on the bay, running scheduled trips onto the reef and courses for every level.
In our view this is one of the best value adults only bases on the southern Red Sea, and the house reef access is genuinely special. It is a calm hotel by design. Guests who want big buffet variety and late nightlife every night may prefer a larger complex. Accommodation at JAZ Costa Mares Marsa Alam spreads across 208 rooms and suites in low rise buildings, finished in a calm, contemporary style with pale stone, timber tones and splashes of Red Sea blue. Every room is air conditioned with a furnished balcony or terrace, satellite television, minibar, safe, tea and coffee facilities and a modern bathroom, with king size or twin bedding available in most categories. Views range across the gardens, the pools and the bay itself, and because the resort was built in 2020 the whole place still feels box fresh.
The entry point and a very comfortable one, with a queen or twin beds, a balcony or terrace and a choice of aspects including garden, bay and combined pool and sea views. A sensible pick if you plan to spend your days on the beach and at the reef rather than in the room.
The mainstay of the resort and noticeably more generous, at around 45 to 46 m² with a proper seating area. Deluxe Rooms come with bay, pool or sea view aspects, and some can interconnect for friends travelling together. For the extra space alone we think they are worth it on a longer stay.
The top of the tree, sometimes sold as the Sea Front Suite, with around 120 m² of space, a separate lounge area, a bathtub and a front row sea view. There are only a handful, so early booking matters, especially for honeymoons and special occasions.
Meals at JAZ Costa Mares are built around a generous All Inclusive programme that suits the hotel’s unhurried pace. Expect buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners in the main restaurant, a late breakfast served down at the beach for slow starters, afternoon snacks, ice cream, coffee and cake, and selected local soft and alcoholic drinks served from mid morning until around midnight. Premium and imported brands, fresh juices and speciality coffees typically carry a charge, and a smart casual dress code applies at dinner.
All Inclusive guests also receive an included à la carte dinner during their stay at one of the speciality restaurants, subject to advance reservation, and some stays of a week or more include further visits. Fresh fish and seafood served à la carte right on the sand, with the bay in front of you. Open daily with reservation required, and in our view the most atmospheric table in the resort for a special evening. It also hosts the late breakfast and daytime beach service.

The pool scene at JAZ Costa Mares is deliberately simple: two outdoor pools set in the gardens between the buildings and the beach, each ringed by terraces with free loungers, cushions and parasols, and a daily towel service so there is nothing to carry down. With 208 rooms, all of them occupied by adults, the ratio of loungers to guests is one of the resort’s quiet luxuries.
Winter guests should note the heating makes a real difference: the southern Red Sea enjoys sunshine year round, but from December to February a heated pool turns a good holiday into an easy one. There are no slides, no splash features and no animation team with a microphone, which is exactly how the clientele here likes it.
The beach is the reason to choose this hotel over almost anywhere else on the coast. JAZ Costa Mares Marsa Alam fronts its own soft, sandy beach on the sheltered Marsa Mares bay, with a gentle sandy entry that makes swimming easy at any age and free loungers, parasols and towels along the shore. A long jetty of around 160 metres, shared with the neighbouring Jaz resorts, reaches out over the water for easy access at all tides.
Under the surface, the bay’s seagrass meadows and coral heads attract green turtles that graze within sight of the beach, and the resort sits immediately beside Marsa Mubarak, one of the most famous bays in the entire Red Sea for encounters with resident dugongs, huge turtles and eagle rays. Snorkelling in the hotel’s own bay is free for guests, and sightings of turtles from the shore are a regular occurrence rather than a lucky strike.
A PADI five star dive centre, run by Scuba World Divers, sits directly on Marsa Mares bay serving the small cluster of Jaz resorts here. To protect the fragile seagrass that the dugongs feed on, trips into Marsa Mubarak run by small zodiac boats at set times, usually 8am, 11.30am and 2pm, for both divers and snorkellers. The centre also runs speedboat snorkelling excursions several times a day, full day boat trips to Samadai Reef, the horseshoe lagoon known as Dolphin House where spinner dolphins rest, and the full range of PADI courses from first bubbles to professional level. Experienced divers can arrange trips towards Elphinstone Reef, one of the Red Sea’s legendary wall dives, and the turtle bay of Abu Dabbab lies down the coast.
Wellness at JAZ Costa Mares runs through Mivida Spa, the JAZ group’s own spa brand, which keeps things calm and grown up in line with the rest of the resort. Massages, facials and beauty treatments are bookable on site at extra cost, and because every guest is 16 or over the treatment rooms and relaxation areas stay genuinely peaceful. We suggest booking a treatment for early in your stay; the good slots go first, and an aloe wrap after a first day in the Egyptian sun is money well spent.
Active guests are quietly well served here. The gym is free to use, the daytime programme includes yoga, aerobics and aqua gymnastics at a relaxed adult pace, and the beach and jetty make an irresistible case for a swim before breakfast. What you will not find is pressure: the animation style is low key, invitations rather than announcements, and plenty of guests spend a fortnight here doing nothing more strenuous than the walk from lounger to bar.
The resort occupies a prized spot on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, on Marsa Mares bay just south of the marina town of Port Ghalib and remarkably close to Marsa Alam International Airport. Transfers take around 10 to 15 minutes, which makes this one of the shortest airport runs of any five star resort in Egypt: you can realistically be at the pool within an hour of landing. Dugongs are regularly sighted in the seagrass bays beside the resort, particularly Marsa Mubarak, which is one of the most reliable places in the Red Sea to encounter them. Sightings are never guaranteed with wild animals, but the dive centre's scheduled zodiac trips into the bay give you a genuinely strong chance, and green turtles are seen almost daily.
