Set on a low rise above the sheltered, crescent shaped waters of Coraya Bay, Jaz Lamaya Resort is one of the most established five star addresses on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, around 15 minutes from Marsa Alam International Airport and fronting one of the finest house reefs in the country.
Madinat Coraya is a purpose built resort village wrapped around a horseshoe bay roughly 7.5 km south of the airport, and Jaz Lamaya holds one of its best positions, slightly elevated with gardens that step gently down towards the sand. The architecture is warm Moorish, all arches, domes and sand toned buildings of two and three storeys, and because the 389 rooms are spread through the grounds rather than stacked in a tower, the resort keeps a relaxed, unhurried feel even in peak season.
The water is the real story. Coraya Bay opens to the north east, so it is protected from the strong currents and heavy swell of the open Red Sea, and the coral house reef can be reached straight from the resort’s jetty. Turtles, rays, moray eels and dense shoals of reef fish live within a few fin kicks of your sunbed, which is why this bay has such a loyal following among snorkellers and divers, many of whom return year after year.
On land, days revolve around four garden pools, three of them heated in the cooler months, a sandy beach with sunbeds and towels provided, and the branded Mividaspa. Evenings are easy going rather than raucous, with live music, shows in the amphitheatre most nights and the speciality restaurants of the Madinat Coraya village a short stroll along the bay.
Who suits it? In our view Jaz Lamaya is a natural pick for couples and families who want a proper five star beach holiday with world class snorkelling on tap and one of the shortest transfers in Egypt. If you want big town bustle on the doorstep, look further north; if you want calm, clear water and coral, this is the one, and our customers tell us the bay alone justifies the trip.

Accommodation at Jaz Lamaya Resort Marsa Alam is split between a main building and a series of low garden blocks, so most rooms sit close to the pools or the path down to the beach. The mix is unusual: of the 389 rooms, the majority are flexible family layouts, alongside 52 Superior rooms and just two Junior Suites. Every category comes with a furnished balcony or terrace and a choice of outlooks over the gardens, pools or the bay itself.
The entry category, with a queen bed or twins, a walk in shower and a balcony or terrace. Garden view as standard, with pool view and sea view versions sold in limited numbers, so ask early if the outlook matters to you.

A 45 m² layout with a second sleeping area for children screened off by a curtain, so everyone gets some privacy without booking two rooms. Garden, pool and sea view versions are available.
The family layout upgraded with a proper sliding door between the two sleeping areas and sofa beds on the children’s side, which makes a real difference for early bedtimes.
The largest option by far, with a separate living area, a generous terrace and a partial sea view towards the bay. With only two Junior Suites in the whole resort, they book out well ahead.

The à la carte arrangement is the detail most listings leave vague, so here it is exactly. Your stay includes one speciality dinner, taken at one of the à la carte restaurants shared across Madinat Coraya. The resort asks you to reserve in advance, currently around three days ahead through its booking system, and tables are subject to availability, so choose your night early in the holiday. Further speciality dinners beyond the included one are payable locally.

The pool landscape at Jaz Lamaya Resort spreads through the centre of the gardens, with four freshwater swimming pools linked by lawns, palms and generous sun terraces. Three of the four are heated through the cooler winter months, alongside a separate heated children’s pool, so a morning swim is comfortable even in January when the sea feels brisk.
Character wise, the pools split naturally. The stretch nearest the Nesma Pool Bar is the sociable heart of the resort, with daytime activities such as aqua gym and water polo for those who want them, while the pools further into the gardens stay noticeably quieter, and there are plenty of shaded corners under the palms for readers. Sunbeds, parasols and pool towels are provided free of charge at both the pools and the beach.
Between swims, the beachfront food court and the pool bar keep snacks, ice cream and cold drinks flowing from midday, so you never need to plan your day around mealtimes. If you prefer salt water, the sandy bay and its jetty are a couple of minutes below the pool terraces, which is a combination few Red Sea resorts manage this neatly.
The beach is where Jaz Lamaya Resort Marsa Alam earns its reputation. The resort fronts a wide sandy stretch of Coraya Bay, with sunbeds, parasols and towels provided, and the gardens step down to the shore in a couple of minutes’ easy walk from the pools.
The bay opens to the north east, which shelters it from the open sea’s currents and swell, so conditions stay swimmable virtually all year. Coral grows close to the shore in places, some of it almost to the beach, and the resort’s long jetty carries you straight over the reef with separate entry platforms for snorkellers and divers. Expect green turtles, rays, moray eels, lionfish and huge shoals of reef fish within minutes of the ladder; it is honestly one of the best house reefs we sell anywhere on the Red Sea. Pack reef shoes, as the coral reaches shallow water in parts of the bay.
The long established Coraya Divers base operates right on the bay, running guided house reef dives, try dives and internationally recognised courses from beginner to advanced, with the sheltered bay making a forgiving training ground. Diving, courses and equipment hire are charged separately from your board, as are motorised water sports.
All three can be arranged locally through the dive centre or with our team, and they are charged separately from your All Inclusive board.
When you have had your fill of the reef, the branded Mividaspa is the resort’s quiet corner, with a traditional hammam, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room alongside a menu of massages and face and body treatments, plus a beauty salon. Treatments are bookable locally and charged separately from your board, and we suggest reserving your slot early in the week, as late afternoons fill first.
The gym is free to use for guests aged 16 and over, and the sports offer is broader than most resorts this size. Racquets are included on the tennis court, with a small charge for floodlights in the evening.
Evenings wind down gently, with live music on the lobby terrace and national dance shows in the amphitheatre on most nights of the week, the sort of low key programme that suits this resort’s unhurried mood.
Jaz Lamaya sits within Madinat Coraya, a purpose built resort village on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, roughly 7.5 km south of Marsa Alam International Airport. The nearest outside destination is Port Ghalib, a marina town around 15 minutes up the coast with a waterfront promenade, cafés and a small souk; a shuttle runs from the resort for a modest charge. The old trading town of El Quseir and the small town of Marsa Alam itself are each around an hour away by road, and many guests happily never leave the bay at all.

All Inclusive covers buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Al Diwan restaurant, a late riser breakfast at the beach bar, plus snacks, ice cream and afternoon tea with cake from midday. Local drinks and cocktails are served by the glass from mid morning until midnight, and your room’s tea tray and bottled water are refreshed daily. One à la carte dinner per stay at the Madinat Coraya speciality restaurants is also included, booked in advance and subject to availability. Imported premium drinks, shisha and additional speciality dinners are payable locally.
The resort is roughly 7.5 km from Marsa Alam International Airport, which usually means 10 to 15 minutes by road, one of the shortest transfers in Egypt. Transfers with meet and greet are included in our quotes, so you can be checked in well within an hour of landing.
It is one of the best snorkelling hotels we sell. Coraya Bay is sheltered from open sea currents, and the coral house reef is reached from the resort’s jetty, which has its own entry platforms for snorkellers. Turtles, rays, moray eels and large shoals of reef fish are seen regularly, and conditions hold up virtually all year. We do recommend packing reef shoes, as coral grows close to the shore in places.
Yes. The long established Coraya Divers base operates directly on the bay, offering try dives, internationally recognised courses and guided dives on the house reef, with boat trips to sites such as Elphinstone Reef, Abu Dabbab and Samadai Reef for more experienced divers. Diving and courses are charged separately from the All Inclusive board.
Superior rooms are around 37 m² and suit couples, while Deluxe, Family and Deluxe Family rooms are around 45 m², the family versions adding a divided sleeping area for children. The two Junior Suites are around 75 m² with a separate living area and partial sea view, and they book out early. No, Jaz Lamaya welcomes guests of all ages, though the grounds are spread out enough that quieter corners are easy to find, and the gym and billiards are reserved for guests aged 16 and over. If you would prefer a fully adults only atmosphere on the Red Sea, ask our specialists and we will suggest alternatives.
