Set on a tranquil stretch of Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast, Sataya Resort Marsa Alam is a five-star, all-inclusive hideaway in the Abu Dabbab area of the Marsa Alam region. With the desert mountains behind and clear, reef-fringed water in front, it is a place built for unhurried days, where the soundtrack is little more than the lap of the sea and the rustle of palms.
The resort spreads gently along its own private beach, with low-rise accommodation, generous gardens and a string of pools threading between them. Sun terraces, shaded cabanas and quiet corners give you room to slow down, while the dining and wellness facilities mean you rarely need to leave the grounds unless you choose to.
What sets Sataya apart is the sea itself. The resort sits within the Abu Dabbab marine park, with a coral house reef reached straight from its own snorkelling and swimming jetty. For those drawn to the underwater world, this is one of the finest corners of the Red Sea, and the calm, polished feel of the resort makes it an easy place to come back to at the end of the day.
Accommodation at Sataya is arranged across low-rise buildings set among the gardens and pools, with a choice of categories to suit how close you would like to be to the sea or the water. All rooms are comfortably appointed and finished in a calm, contemporary style.
Standard comforts across the resort typically include air conditioning, a private bathroom, a flat-screen television, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and complimentary Wi-Fi. Specific layouts, sizes and inclusions vary by category, so we are happy to confirm the exact features of your chosen room at the time of booking.
The heart of the resort is its private beach and its cluster of swimming pools, which include a lazy river and a relaxation pool with a swim-up bar. Several of the pools are heated during the winter months, so there is somewhere to swim whatever the season. Loungers, parasols and bamboo-thatched cabanas line both the pool decks and the sand.
For quiet time, the Wellbeing spa offers a calm retreat with massages and treatments available, and there is a fitness centre on site. Treatments are bookable locally and are not part of the all-inclusive board.
The sea is the real draw. An on-site dive centre and an easy-entry snorkelling and swimming jetty give direct access to the coral house reef, and the team can arrange diving courses, guided dives and snorkelling trips along the coast. Diving, snorkelling excursions and any motorised or equipment-based watersports are available to book locally rather than included in the board basis, so you can tailor your time in the water to suit you.
Sataya Resort sits in the Abu Dabbab area of the Marsa Alam region, on Egypt’s southern Red Sea coast. It is roughly 30 to 32 kilometres (about 19 to 20 miles) south of Marsa Alam International Airport (RMF), a transfer of around 30 to 40 minutes, which makes for an easy arrival after your flight. This is a relaxed, low-key stretch of coast where the scenery is desert, reef and open sea rather than bustle.
The resort’s own coral house reef lies within the Abu Dabbab marine park and is reached straight from its jetty, alive with corals and reef fish. Just along the coast, Abu Dabbab Bay (a few kilometres away) is famous as one of the best places in the Red Sea to snorkel with green turtles and the rare dugong. Further offshore lie some of Egypt’s most celebrated dive and snorkel sites: Sataya Reef, a crescent-shaped lagoon known as a Dolphin House for its resident pods of spinner dolphins; Shaab Samadai, another Dolphin House near Marsa Alam frequented by bottlenose dolphins; and the dramatic wall of Elphinstone Reef to the north, prized by divers for its drop-offs and pelagic life. All are reached by boat trips that the resort or local operators can arrange.
A stay on the Red Sea pairs beautifully with the history and romance of a Nile cruise. To combine warm-water relaxation with the temples and tombs of ancient Egypt, consider cruising aboard one of Classic Holidays’ own ships, the MS Royal Princess or the Classic Blue Shadow IV.
Dining at Sataya is built around its all-inclusive main restaurant, with a clutch of speciality venues and relaxed bars to vary the rhythm of your stay. The headline buffet is open and generous, while the smaller a la carte restaurants offer a more intimate evening when you fancy a change.
For drinks and lighter bites there is the Aura lobby bar, the seasonal La Terrasse cocktail lounge, the Sea Breeze beach bar and the Lazy Lee swim-up pool bar, while Fuego provides evening entertainment. The all-inclusive arrangement covers meals and a selection of local-brand drinks; the a la carte and speciality restaurants may require a reservation, and certain premium items, imported drinks and special dishes can carry a supplement. We will confirm the precise board inclusions with your booking.
