This is one of the newest resorts in the Jaz Hotel Group’s Elite collection, and it shows. Seven low-rise buildings of three floors sit in landscaped grounds of around 42,000 square metres, threaded with pools and palms and finished in a light, contemporary palette that feels closer to a boutique hotel than a big Red Sea complex. Everything still has that box-fresh feel, and the early guest reviews have been consistently outstanding.
The sea, though, is the real headline. The bay in front of the resort is fringed by a living house reef, reached from a jetty a short walk along the sand, and its seagrass meadows feed the green turtles and occasional dugong that have made this stretch of coast famous. Marsa Mubarak, one of the Red Sea’s most celebrated snorkelling and diving bays, is the next inlet along, and a PADI dive centre sits right on the beach.

Accommodation at Jaz Elite Amara is unusually generous, with around 272 rooms and suites spread across seven low-rise buildings, none more than three floors high. Even the entry-level rooms measure roughly 46 to 51 square metres, which is more than many suites elsewhere on this coast. All come with a balcony or terrace, air conditioning, a seating area, a 42 inch smart television, minibar, safe, and a bathroom with bathrobes and slippers, and most look over the gardens, pools or the bay itself.

Water runs through the whole design at Jaz Elite Amara. Seven outdoor pools sit between the buildings and the beach, from the main pool near the Splash Pool Bar, where most of the daytime life gathers, to quieter pools tucked among the gardens where you can swim lengths in peace. A jacuzzi adds a warm soak, and the swim-up lagoons serving the Swim-Up Rooms are kept for those categories, which keeps them calm.
Pools are heated from November to April, which matters more than most people expect: Marsa Alam winters bring reliable sunshine but the nights are cool, and a heated pool turns a good February holiday into an excellent one. The overall pool scene is relaxed rather than raucous. Daytime activity stays low key, and anyone wanting real animation will find it in the water beyond the beach rather than around the pools, which is precisely how this resort likes it.
The resort fronts its own sandy beach on Marsa Mares Bay, with loungers, parasols and beach towels included and the water shelving gently from the shore. The curve of the bay lends a degree of shelter on breezy days, which this coast gets its share of, and swimming is easiest from the sandy lagoon area and from the jetty, which carries you out over the reef flat to deeper water. Reef shoes are worth packing for anywhere rocky underfoot.

The resort’s spa, Mivida Spa, keeps things intimate with four treatment rooms, a menu of massages and treatments, and a thermal side that runs to a sauna, steam bath and jacuzzi. Treatments and the wellness facilities are charged locally rather than included in the All Inclusive, and the spa is reserved for guests aged 16 and over.
